Anna | west high school madison senior photographer

Meet Anna & Leo.

Anna is the first to say she’s living every eight-year-old girl’s dream, mine included!  We put the rush hour’d, steamy urban streets of Madison in our rearview mirror, drove beside stretches of symmetrical corn rows, while passing silos, passing iconic red barns, passing one gas station towns, passing pastures of cows to get to her job, her barn, her Leo.

We arrive at Hoofer Riding Club, kicking up gravel dust with our tires, and I’m immediately in love. I’m in such admiration of Anna’s daily commute to this space–for years.  And then I met Leo, and it all makes sense. It’s been decades since I’ve been *thisclose* to a horse for more than thirty seconds, and I was struck by his grandeur. Silky chocolate coat, powerful shuffling, graceful movements. Without a doubt, Leo is a gorgeous, majestic animal, and his palpable bond with Anna is as endearing as awe-inspiring.

The essential joy of being with horses is that it brings us in contact with the rare elements of grace, beauty, spirit, and fire.

I am so honored to to be able to spend a sun-kissed evening roaming the countryside, dodging mosquitos, soaking up light, and learning where Anna spends her days.  In a short time you learn how comfortable she is in this space; she appears to know every wooden fence, tree, and blade of grass, and speaks of its winter beauty with the same love as a summer’s night.

I love that Anna’s sister, Sophie, and her parents were also with us, and I was able to document their time together as a family.  They wandered the fields, on and off trodden paths, under blue skies and green tree canopies, chatting and laughing the way families do best. I can say with certainty that Anna and Sophie have bright, beaming futures, and I feel privileged to be able to capture a snippet on an ordinary evening.

Thank you, Anna, Sophie, Robin & Mark!

Here are Robin’s words about our gorgeous evening together:

Jen spent a warm summer’s evening wandering with us around the place my daughter loves more than any other-the fields and pastures where her horse spends his days and she  spends as many as possible with him. For her senior pictures we hoped to capture some images that would show how she has spent some of her happiest days. In addition we hoped for some images of our entire family-both of our daughters are moving into a stage where it is harder for all of us to be in the same place at the same time. Jen was great-she spent time talking with me and my daughter about what we wanted.  She was patient, flexible, and relaxed. She captured the moments-the people, the setting, the spirit-beautifully. Her photos evoke many treasured memories!

Thank you, Robin!
