The Best Way to Spend a Summer Morning | madison lifestyle photographer

Brothers. So best.

I have an almost magnetic pull to document the foundation of a sibling relationship.  Enter Patrick & Landon. Two years apart and inseparable as one person. I nodded in enthusiastic agreement as I felt their engagement with each other; their language, facial expressions, body movements mimic each other as if they belong to a secret society of two. Dues being paid in Lego Minifigures, naturally.

We spent a blue skies, cotton candy clouds kind of sunshiney summer morning together in their home & yard.  The boys hunkered down in their matching armchairs to share their collection of current fav books, even pointing out an illustrative doppelgänger of their Uncle Dan with surprising accuracy.  Outside, in the their little backyard suburban oasis, everyone sampled green beans from the bountiful garden with zeal–well, ok,  Zeal: 3, Not A Fan, 1 on the unofficial garden scoreboard.  They have an impressive patch of variety for their farm plot, and I imagine they  have been pulling out the produce left and right since our session.  Later, they spent time on their front sidewalk, zipping around with their mad confident bike riding skills, just like you did as a kid.  Sweet pup Rosemary stayed near, receiving kisses and love by anyone within twelve inches of her body, and it’s with a hand-over-heart cuteness that I witnessed her watching every family member pass through the backyard gate without breaking her stare down. The overriding theme of our time is play.  I found the boys in richly layered actions, language, imagination, and all wrapped up in a tight brotherly bond for hours. And hands down awesomesauce, Kristin and Dave were both thoroughly engaged in their children’s creative play and stories, encouraging new scenarios and participating with bona fide interest.  I could have watched them interact all summer long.

That’s what I call So Best.
